About Lemon Bay Lemon Bay is part of an estuary that has been targeted as a National Estuary Program Estuary. (The Merriam-Webster dictionary explains that an estuary is a water passage where the tide meets a river current.) The Florida Legislature has designated Lemon Bay as an aquatic preserve and the Florida Department of Natual Resources considers it an Outstanding Florida Water (OFW). What all of this means is, special measures are in place and will continue to be taken to preserve and maintain the high water quality that is found in Lemon Bay. So its glistening water will remain just as beautiful and clean years from now as it is today. Steeped in history, the Lemon Bay/Englewood area exudes an old-fashioned charm and promises an easygoing way of life with a twist -- you can relax and rejuvenate to your heart's content, but when you're ready to get up and go, there's plenty to do. You don't have to go far to witness the splendor of nature. (Your own observation deck, for example.) Manatees, seaturtles, eagles, pelicans, osprey and dolphins are often seen in this tranquil, serene part of Florida. Nature lovers will enjoy the area's many wildlife preserves and hiking trails and history buffs will be thrilled to learn there is a prehistoric Indian mound site from 1000 B.C. nearby to explore. |
